Bourdelle leaves his name in art history as a successor to Rodin with Maillol. Though his sculpture is known for its strong, masculine and monumental style represented by "Hercules, the Archer", he also creates a lot of lyrical woman statues like this small piece. The model is his then assistant Cleopatre who became his wife later. His tender feeling toward her is evident in each part of it.
